After 49 million abortions since 1973, America needs a bold, Holy Ghost-filled woman to model pro-life values in the White House.

Just one week before the Republican Convention was scheduled to kick off in Minnesota, most evangelical Christians I know were (1) half-heartedly supporting John McCain; (2) flirting with the idea of voting for Barack Obama even though they disagreed with his policies; or (3) considering not voting at all. But the political mood shifted abruptly on Sept. 3, as if something from the mountains of Alaska sent seismic shockwaves across the nation. The earthquake hit when a little-known female governor appeared on the national stage with a baby in one arm and four more of her kids sitting in the audience.
Gov. Sarah Palin, who has kept an infant swing in her office in Juneau since April, has changed everything about the 2008 presidential race. Nobody—including McCain, no doubt—had any idea how much Palin’s candidacy would electrify the nation.
Evangelicals and other social conservatives were so ecstatic about “Sarah Barracuda” that the left-leaning media began a mad dash to discredit her. Animal rights activists complained about her bear rugs and her father’s fondness for moose hunting. Hypocritical feminists questioned whether Palin has time to run a country with all those kids. (So they think only liberal women can govern?) Democratic pundits claimed she lacks foreign policy experience. (If McCain had selected globetrotting Condoleezza Rice for the job, would the Democrats have approved? I don’t think so.)
| “Palin and her family, even with their flaws, are the embodiment of the compassionate pro-life values America desperately needs to adopt.” |
Palin’s enemies will poke around for the next two months to find her weak spots, but I have a feeling the tough-talking hockey mom from Wasilla will hold up just fine under scrutiny. They are underestimating this woman’s Christian faith, which has shaped her anti-corruption policies, her pro-life convictions and her refreshingly humble servant-leadership style.
There’s a lot to like about Palin—including the fact that she has been a courageous whistle-blower in Alaskan politics and that she has creative ideas about energy policy. But what excites me most is the fact that she is a working mom with solid Christian values. We are way overdue for a conservative mother’s touch in the White House.
Our country has been in a protracted debate over abortion since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. Republicans and Democrats in Congress have argued for decades about whether it’s OK to kill a baby in the third trimester or whether parents should have any say-so in a minor’s decision to abort a child. While the good ol’ boys ran Washington, more than 49 million babies were killed in 36 years.
Some women politicians got themselves elected to powerful positions in Washington a few years ago. Unfortunately, many of them sold out to the establishment before they got there. These women failed us. They traded their birthright at the altar of liberal feminism and betrayed the essence of motherhood.
Thankfully Palin doesn’t have all the years of experience her critics say she needs on her resume. If she had breathed the noxious air in Washington for 15 years, she might have compromised her values too. As it stands, we have a woman with backbone who can stand up to the death lobby.
We need Palin’s perspective. Here’s a woman who didn’t sacrifice her family for her career and who didn’t abort her fifth child, Trig, when she found out he had Down’s syndrome. Here’s a woman who told the audience at the Republican Convention last week that Trig is “perfect”—and pledged to be an advocate for parents of special needs children. Here’s a woman who, when confronted with her 17-year-old daughter’s out-of-wedlock pregnancy, gracefully encouraged her to keep the baby and marry the father.
Talk about a role model. Palin’s life is a prophecy to America. She doesn’t have to preach against abortion. She and her family, even with their flaws, are the embodiment of the compassionate pro-life values America desperately needs to adopt.
When McCain announced that he had chosen Palin as his running mate, I was reminded of the biblical story of Deborah, the Old Testament prophet who rallied God’s people to victory at a time when ancient Israel was being terrorized by foreign invaders. Deborah’s gender didn’t stop her from amassing an army; she inspired the people in a way no man could. She and her defense minister, Barak, headed to the front lines and watched God do a miracle on the battlefield.
In her song in Judges 5:7, Deborah declares: “The peasantry ceased, they ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, until I arose, a mother in Israel” (NASB).
Sometimes it takes a true mother to rally the troops. I hope that Palin, a woman who believes in prayer and is filled with the Holy Ghost, will take her hockey stick and smash the glass ceiling in American politics once and for all.

From your article it sounds like the most important issue, to you, facing this country is whether or not to outlaw abortion. Are you aware that this country is facing much bigger problems than a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body?
Things like our huge national deficit, the cost of the war both in lives and dollars, the cost of gas and our dependence on foreign oil, high unemployment and a sagging economy, Americans losing their homes, and the health care crisis must all seem like minutia to you compared to the abortion issue.
I’m not a proponent of abortion, however it is not for you or anyone else to ultimately decide what a woman does with her body. I’m always struck by people who write articles like this, who worry that a mass of cells will not be allowed to be born, will be murdered, yet no mention is made of all the lives being lost in the war and to illness due to lack of access to health care.
You champion Palin’s decision not to abort a baby, yet neglect to mention that part of being a good loving mother is being there to care for her children. Palin seems too busy pursuing her own ambitions to be that full time mom that the Christian family values folks seem to dictate. I don’t think there is any honor in popping out babies if you have plans other than being there to care for them.
abortion is the #1 issue facing america. our deficit won’t matter a jot when we are hit with the judgement of God because of the blood spilled on our land by abortion doctors. God hears the cry of that blood and we must plead for mercy.
no woman has a “right” to murder a life planted in her womb by God. that is secular humanism. God alone opens and closes the womb.
a life is never just a mass of cells. God knew us when we were yet being formed in our mother’s womb. a life is a life no matter how small.
Thanks for your voice in these days Julia. Abortion is the greatest issue when it comes to politics because there are laws dictating life and death. How can any God fearing person read Psalm 139, and most of the bible for that matter, and not realize how precious life is to God and that all life is from God. There is simply no issue among human beings more contrary to God’s heart than supporting murder in the name of human rights. God is holy and the cries of the innocent will not go unheard.
Thanks again for making a stand. It will be more and more unpopular as the days go by, which in my opinion shows just how much it is needed.
No thanks, this isn’t Iran. This country is NOT a theocracy. Your religion has no business in my affairs. It’s like me saying that since I’m a vegetarian, there should be a law that makes you one too. I don’t agree with eating meat, but yet I recognise that I shouldn’t force my belief on you as that takes away your freedom.
Instead of worrying about an unborn fetus, you should worry about all the children out there already suffering from famine, disease, and war. It’s them who need the help and attention to ensure they can live their life to the fullest. Yet I know already that you will just blabber on about your archaic notion of “god”, who no doubt is probably pictured in the form of an old white man. -_-
my God is most DEFINATELY NOT an old white man! my God is an all consuming fire! He is so much more than we can ever comprehend. He is passionate, jealous, fiery, full of love and hears the cry of the orphan, widow, oppressed, poor and needy above all else. He is a God of justice. and His Son is a man forever. Fully God, fully Man, seated at His right hand. He is coming back because of the cries of the poor and oppressed and He WILL bring justice to the earth that the wicked may oppress no more!
you are correct that our ears should be open to the cries of the suffering children of the world and that while there is a Body of Christ in existence, no child should want for a home. there should be NO “unwanted” children. God, pour out a spirit of adoption upon your people!
I was SHOCKED by a recent pastor friend of mine who said that Christians have made abortion the “only issue” of this political campaign. He was concerned about jobs being cut by companies who send the work overseas. And, although I believe this is real issue, I thought how aweful it will be to stand on judgment day and face the millions who were aborted and claim some kind of “financial hardship” as more important than standing against the systematic murder of the innocent. The Scriptures are clear about the “shedding of innocent blood.”
What does it say for Sarah Palin’s respect for life when she got on an airplane and flew thousands of miles with a ruptured amniotic sac while carrying a premature, special needs child? No obstetrician in the country would recommend behavior like that, and 99.9% of pregnant women would never behave so irresponsibly. It was her 5th baby! What if she had delivered on the airplane? She certainly couldn’t have considered the position in which she might have placed the flight crew and the passengers. How do you delivery a baby at 35,000 feet that might need a special care nursery? What if the umbilical cord had gotten in front of the baby’s head (prolapsed)- killing the baby. Please consider actions and not just a politician’s words……
But how will the innocent aborted souls rally against us when the Bible clearly states that all beings are born (or aborted) in sin and must repent to enter the Kingdom of Heaven? God’s going to pluck all those innocent souls out of Hell to have His vengeance upon us?
Please don’t make this election solely about abortion. You’re more than welcome to support that part of someone’s policy if it’s important to you, but that’s not the biggest problem in our country. Perhaps if you’d let folks teach something other than abstinence-only education in our schools, we wouldn’t have so many unwed, unwanted pregnancies. But I guess birth control is defying God’s will too…
No one wants to “kill” the unborn but most people don’t want you or anyone else dictating what one can or cannot do with one’s own body. It is very ironic that you folks, who believe as Julia does, that all life is sacred just don’t exhibit the same concern for those who have already emerged from the womb. Untold millions have been killed and persecuted in the name of god and religion. This doesn’t make you sound pro-life it just makes you all look like a bunch of hypocrites. And let’s not even get started on pro lifer Palin posing with the moose she murdered.
Dear Brother Grady,
I was encouraged by the discernment God gave you regarding Todd Bentley and your faithfulness to share your concerns. I cannot help but do the same regarding Christians aligning themselves with Sarah Palin’s interpretation of her God-given role as a woman, wife and mother.
As a sister-in-Christ who received the precious gift of salvation offered to me in 1979, I cannot keep silent. The last thing I wish to see happen in our country is for the liberals to gain the White House. However, I far more fear God and only desire to walk with Him in agreement upon His wise foundations of divine order that He clearly established from Genesis through Revelation.
I believe that Sarah Palin’s candidacy for the Vice Presidential spot in government is a sure sign of the increasing judgment of God upon this nation. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ has failed to honor God’s divine order in the family and in the church. Judgment begins at the house of God. Only God’s people have a clear written testimony of the will of our Creator and Sovereign Lord. We have departed from truth and allowed a feminist spirit to control our families and our churches. We have sown the wind and may even reap the whirlwind. Except we repent.
I believe 2008 has been a year of increasing judgment upon God upon a nation that has departed from the Scriptures. I believe God is allowing the same spirit of Antichrist to try His church first before He gives permission for the full force of this spirit to try the whole world. I believe Oprah Winfrey opened a floodgate when she spewed her doctrines of devils in the form of a new age christ. Many in the church were quick to denounce her apostasy and warn of deceiving spirits that were set to seduce the simple. Yet, these same Christians could not see what was coming next.
I believe judgment began at the house of God in a very peculiar way this past Spring, when God allowed spirits of error and blasphemy through Todd Bentley to try His faithful. Few charismatic men of God were bold enough to come to the forefront swiftly and warn the church. Dutch Sheets’ cries for repentance were what was needed to preserve the sheep from the wolves. Sadly, such a clear call came after the poison had been received.
If Sarah Palin had had wise servants of God to counsel her as she pursued the position of Governor, I believe these counselors would have upheld the Scriptures and their testimony, precepts and statutes. If Sarah Palin had a wise, God-fearing husband, he would have seen the consequences of agreeing with her leadership pursuits that have brought her and her own family into such places of jeopardy. Truly, the word of God has been blasphemed. She has given abundant opportunity for the enemies of the Lord to reproach the word of God.
I believe that God has been trying to chasten His daughter and bring her to her senses so that she can repent. I am praying for God to raise up His standard before her, give her grace to acknowledge how she has departed His clear call to her as a wife and mother, and give her the gift of repentance so that she can save herself from further strong delusion (2 Thess. 2:9-15). May we have grace to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. May we continue to uphold the Biblical traditional roles of women who are wives and mothers. Unless we learn to test the spirits by the word of God, unless we turn to the law and to the testimony, unless we believe Jesus’ clear teaching that not one jot nor one tittle of the law would pass until all was fulfilled, we will proceed into greater darkness and even apostasy.
I believe that Sarah’s greatest hour in history is ahead. If she can see how the Lord could use her public renunciation of her despising her place as wife and mother, if she could return to her family sphere and call all women to honor their husbands so that their husbands are known in the gates, I believe she could find herself indeed raised by God for such a time as this. He was able to bring Nebudchanezzar down so that he would humble himself. I pray that He will likewise give Sarah this same repentance.
Proverbs 21:30-31 tell us that there is no wisdom, no counsel and no understanding against the Lord. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but safety is of the Lord.
If we do well, it shall be well with us. If we don’t, sin lies at the door. No matter who is in leadership of this country, God’s promises are still true and will be performed on behalf of those whose hands are clean and whose hearts are pure in His sight. For these see God and shall continue to see Him, no matter HOW dark the days ahead may become.
Proverbs 11:21-22 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished, but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. Sarah Palin is as a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, for she is truly a fair (beautiful to look upon) woman who lacks discretion. She took the bait of political prestige that Jesus refused when Satan offered it to Him.
Sarah Palin is not the example I want my daughters and granddaughters to emulate. She is not a daughter of Sarah, wife of Abraham. She is not a virtuous woman who opens her mouth with wisdom and who has the law of kindness in her tongue. She is not a woman who has any fear of the company she keeps. She does not believe that she is rebelling to the will of God for her life. She believes the false prophets who have “blessed her” in the name of the Lord. God forbid that she should refuse to hear the words of the Lord and fail to receive the love of all of His truth. For then she would choose to receive strong delusion. God would send it upon her and all who join hand in hand with a spirit of fear. Just as Eve was deceived, so goes it with Sarah. But her husband Todd, he shall receive a greater judgment except he repents.
Fear God. Don’t fear man. Fear of man brings a snare. And as a snare shall it come upon the whole earth. Only fear God, honor the leaders He brings into their places. Honor them in prayer for their salvation as He exhorts us to do. But don’t rush in and cast a vote for John McCain because he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. Unholy alliances never bring God’s blessing and favor. They only bring greater and swifter judgment.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord and honor Him in all our ways. We will not join hand in hand with the wicked who hate God and His truth and think they are in control by casting their votes for John McCain.
I would call all those who name the name of Christ to depart from evil and keep themselves unspotted from this world. I would call all to pray for the repentance of God’s people and then the nation. For I truly believe God is allowing all of this to happen to wake up His sleeping Church and give us an opportunity to stand before Him and one another in faith and be found faithful.
I am not afraid of the future, even if God permits Obama to rise into power. For I know that I am among those who know their God and who shall be strong and do exploits. I never seen the righteous forsaken nor their seed begging bread. God will protect us, preserve our lives and provide for us. In the days of famine, we shall be satisfied.
And, should we have to be martyred for our faith and our heads fall to the ground, those same heads will immediately rise up to be adorned with martyrs’ crowns. For we love not our lives, even unto the death. We are ready to die for the truth that was once delivered to the saints.
If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Please do not endorse this destruction of fiber of the Christian family. We are to be of a different spirit and separate from the spirit of this world. I stand with Caleb and Joshua who wholly followed the Lord and were of a different spirit.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus – Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on this earth even as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ Name –

Gee, I am not Christian. My mother is Buddhist. So all discussion about God is way over my head. But I agree with honjii, odie, and rachael. We owe to all children born in this world a safe, well provided life and opportunity to be the best they can be. I am pro-life, but I don’t want to interfere with other women’s choices about their body. The role of government is to provide the citizens a safe environment and the opportunity to be the best they can be. I don’t see why the government should tell a woman what she wants to do with her own body.
Sonia and all who agree with her:
I am pro life too. All of this argument about people being allowed to do what they want to with their own body is simply not logical because it misses a very important fact. When a woman aborts her child, what she is doing is not just done to her body, but it is completely ending the earthly life of another body. Since when does the right to do with our bodies include the right to destroy another’s body in the process? I’m sorry, but that whole argument just leaves me cold.
